Description
Scenarios with overlaps between human health, animal health and environmental health can often be associated to workplaces, making occupational safety and health (OSH) an important aspect in the One Health approach. However, OSH and One Health are not spcifically integrated with another, although they can both benefit from each other.
E.g. workplaces in animal husbandry can be characterized by a high exposure to bioaerosols but also antibiotics. Thus, occupational safety and health needs to broaden its horizon because health of employees can also be influenced by parameters that go beyond classical risk assessment of workplaces, e.g. transfer of antimicrobial resistance genes. In addition, findings in occupational safety and health may also be helpful in promoting health of animals and the environment.
We present workplace measurements ranging from classical methods like cultivation up to novel methodologies like metaproteogenomic approaches, biomonitoring and exposure to antibiotics in animal husbandry to support this hypothesis.
